I sure hope it is, because I have good news ... okay, it may not be good news for anyone else, but I'm excited about it, and what else is a blog for, anyway? (Wank, I know. But I try to stay away from that as much as humanly possible.)

I am very pleased to announce that Roc has agreed to buy a new three-book Young Adult series from me, the first book of which will be out sometime in 2006.

I'm very excited about this for a number of reasons, the first being I get to revisit one of my very favorite scary-story haunts, the vampire tale as urban fantasy ... and the second that I have never written Young Adult fiction before, and this sounds like a whole lot of fun. I'm very grateful to Roc for giving me the chance.

... In other news, Windfall is #17 on the in-store B&N science fiction bestseller list. Up from #19, at that! I think that calls for a piece of chocolate with the champagne.

Okay, back to work on NaNo, and the onrushing deadline for Thin Air.

Had several copies on the new fantasy shelf at Books-a-Million, so I did my part to push up the sales figures. (That's quite an evil cliffhanger, by the way.) You may have to make that a piece of chocolate cake.

Congratulations on the sale! Young adult books are delightful. I think a lot of the best writing anywhere is on the young adult shelf. I suspect, by and large, the people writing and editing young adult and children's books care more about giving the reader a quality product than adult writers and editors. Good stuff. *hugs*

First of all, let me say HOORAY! for your song choice to this post. The particular Concrete Blonde song is so fitting for your news.

Second, I can't tell you how excited I am about your writing not only YA books, but VAMPIRE YA books. I am one of many vampire fans, but I especially love vampire fiction written from the YA point-of-view. YA emotions are so raw and complete (in that you feel taken over by them as a teen) that the subject of vampires (or anything in that realm of supernatural) can take on wonderful twists that might not be as feasible in adult fiction.

By the way, I just finished (as in a couple hours ago) Stephanie Meyer's YA novel Twilight and I *highly* recommend it. The first chapter was a bit slow, but I was very happy I stuck with the book. I found myself easily identifying with the main character, Bella, with her clumsiness, but her witty observance of others.

So, anyway. . .oh, I suppose I should also say that I pretty much wanted to hunt you down and throw Windfall at you after I read it. How DARE you always end with such cliffhangers. Every time I finish one of your books I feel like I need to run around screaming partly out of the pure joy of reading your work and partly out of the agitation of having to wait for more!

First -- sorry. This comment got caught up in the Great Email Delay of 2005, courtesy of LJ -- I just received it today.

Second -- I'm soooooo excited to be doing these books, I can't even begin to tell you. The idea really got into my head in a big, big way.

Third -- um, sorry. The funny thing? The endings don't FEEL like cliffhangers to me. They feel like the logical end of the story, before I start on a whole new (and quite long) story arc. So it's either cut it there, or have a 200k book ... which Roc wouldn't favor, I'm pretty sure. :)

But I'm sorry. Please don't throw things. I promise to try to do better. In fact, there's what I would consider an actual ending on Firestorm, rather than a cliffhanger. And Thin Air will definitely have an ending, because it's (maybe) going to be the last book in the series.

I actually read a lot of YA fiction these days. There's some fantastic work and some wonderful writers (Holly Black, Chris Wooding, and now you). I can't wait to read these!

P.S. Final surgery went fine, I'm fully reconstructed and starting to feel like me again. Yay!
