Coming up in June!
In addition to the release of FEAST OF FOOLS (otherwise known as Morganville Vampires, Book 4), June's also going to see the release of this lovely thing:

So what is it? It's the second release from a new collaboration between BenBella Books and Borders, called Teen Libris, and it's a collection of essays -- from the funny to the serious -- about Stephenie Meyer's brilliant book TWILIGHT.

Lovely, no? I was so lucky to be asked to contribute.

The official press release:

An excuse to fall in love with Bella and Edward all over again

Borders Exclusive anthology A New Dawn gives readers more of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series

DALLAS—Breaking Dawn, the fourth and final title in Stephenie Meyer’s cult hit Twilight series is released Aug. 2, with the feature film based on the first book, Twilight, following on its heels Dec. 12. In the ensuing frenzy, the series’ fans will be looking for more of their favorite series. Thankfully, A New Dawn: Your Favorite Authors on Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Series, edited by New York Times bestselling author Ellen Hopkins, delivers with fresh takes on Bella, Edward, Jacob and the rest of Forks, Wash. It hits Borders’ shelves this June.

In A New Dawn, 13 beloved and up-and-coming writers for teens, including Megan McCafferty, Robin Brande, Rachel Caine and Cassandra Clare, discuss the Twilight series in surprising, funny and insightful pieces that run the gamut from how the series is like a Shakespearean tragedy to whether it’s easier (and safer!) to date a vampire or a werewolf.

A New Dawn is the second in a new series of books called Teen Libris, where Independent Reader and Young Adult authors give their insights on favorite IR and YA series for an IR and YA audience. Other titles include Through the Wardrobe, on C. S. Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia, edited by Herbie Brennan and released in April; Demigods and Monsters, on Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, edited by series author Rick Riordan himself and released in May; and Secrets of the Dragon Riders, on Christopher Paolini’s Inheritance series, edited by James A. Owen and to be released in July. The series will be carried exclusively in Borders bookstores.

The perfect companion to the Twilight series, A New Dawn sates Twilight fans’ hunger for their favorite series while showing them a few more things to love about Stephenie Meyer’s epic love story along the way.

Wicked cool, man.

... Sorry for the silence, I've actually been drawn back into my former employer as a contractor for a limited period of time. BUT! Stay tuned, there's a cool contest a-coming to celebrate the release of both FEAST OF FOOLS and A NEW DAWN.

I will just say one word as a hint: iPod.

Okay, two words: custom iPod.

And signed books, too. Obv.

Last but not least: Please go and donate to the Red Cross -- so many people need help right now, in the wake of the disaster in Burma and the recent deadly tornadic storms that have ripped through the U.S.

Charity begins at home. Or, in my case, at PayPal ...

<--- appears to be one of the few people on the planet who really didn't think Twilight was any good at all.

But on the bright side, rereading Ill Wind is fun. I remembered some plot points earlier than I thought I would, but others surprised me. And there's still one or two descriptions that confuse me. But yay David! And Rahel!

(I always wondered if you named her Rahel because it's Rachel-without-the-C, sort of like how Neil Gaiman was originally writing about a character named Caroline but he kept mistyping it Coraline so he left it that way. Or so I've heard.)

Funny story about Rahel -- I called her Rahel after a friend of mine (named Rachel) BEFORE I chose the name Rachel Caine to write under. So it was a shout-out, but not to me ... to one of my oldest friends.

Ah, well, I really love Twilight. It completely sucked me in.

Even better :) In one of my very old (read: in desperate need of an overhaul) stories, I named a minor character after the way I usually typo my own name. No one's guessed which one it is yet, although a simple look down at their keyboards would probably make it obvious ;)

(Is there a good place to ask spoilery questions? I wanted to ask something about the Djinn in Ill Wind but it could give stuff away and I don't like spoiling things for people.)

I just found Bella ... dull. And whiny. And I wanted to smack some sense into her. As much as Claire's action may irritate me in Morganville Vampires, at least I can see why she's making the decisions she does.

Then again, I have strange standards for YA. I've been spoiled by too many awesome Terry Pratchett novels, I guess :) *clings to her Discworld collection*

Hey, I don't blame you ... it's tough to compete with Pratchett. Heck, it's tough to even stay on the game table!

Email me at rachel@rachelcaine.com if you want to whisper about spoilery spoilers ... :)

Abducted by The Host this weekend...

Okay, Twilight may have sucked you in, but The Host will abduct you. Just finished it today, after starting it Friday night; slow start, being a new book, but OMG... any book that makes me tear up while reading I rate as a ten.

I didn't like Twilight either, and I originally looked at the cut to see if any of the essays might possibly disagree with the pre-supposition that it's the BEST BOOK EVER, and it looks like not.

Maybe I should go reread Ill Wind instead of thinking about Stephenie Meyer (UGH, hard to type: my first name is Stephanie).

Excellent! Congrats!

As for the donating, well, yes ... but given how completely hideous, corrupt and downright evil the Burmese military dictators are, you need to be very careful. I have little faith that money will reach who needs it. I mean, I donated through an Oz charity, but I'm still ... dubious.

I know. But there's nothing we can do but hope that help will somehow get through. The UN is trying desperately to get past the Burmese asshats who want to take credit for the aid. Even if the aid doesn't get to Burma, though, there are plenty of people who need the help out there -- or will, unfortunately.

I was just watching the TV coverage on the tornado that ripped through Oklahoma (one state away!) this morning -- man. Nothing left. It's a miracle so many people escaped with their lives -- but they've got little enough left. :sigh:

Your Burma point: well taken. I just hope that somehow people can get the help they need.

Wow, you've had a lot of tornadoes over there recently. Those suckers are something else. Thoughts and prayers to all those affected.

As for Burma. Y'know, I've reached the point where I wish the entire international community (the part of it with a conscience, anyhow) would just all get together and ignore the junta. Just ride on in there and do what needs to be done, like a UN version of DCFS. Screw their friggin' sensibilities. Their evil sickens me. I hope every last soul who perishes because of their wickedness haunts the bastards till the end of their days.

I got physically ill when I read that they were holding up aid shipments so they could slap their own labels on them and take credit for it.

That's beyond evil.

Heard today they're taking the aid supplies and selling them.

I cannot wrap my brain around this. At least the Chinese govt is doing the right thing after the earthquake.

LOL, thank you! I think FEAST may come out first (it's June 3) because I don't see an exact release date for the anthology.

But still! :)

I can't get Liv to put down the twilight books. She's read them all about 37 times.

This gives me even more motivation to read the Twilight books. They keep coming up in conversations and in odd ways in my life. I had one literally hit me on the head last week at Borders. So congratulations on being in the book!

Congrats on being asked to contribute on this book!

I have all three Twilight books but I must admit that I haven't touched New Moon or Eclipse. I've read the first half of Twilight and it's okay, but it's not the best read I've had. I'll read them all when the fourth one comes out.

I find it kind of funny how 'big' Cassandra Clare is getting now. I found her books read a lot like her fanfiction did.

I cannot wait until Feast of Fools!!! I'm also excited to read New Dawn. Everyone at work is all psyched about Twilight, so I'm surprised that no one knows at my store knew that we're going to carry New Dawn exclusively. There's soo many good books coming out this year that I can hardly contain myself. No wonder my paycheck never leaves work :).
You rock Rachel!

I have to say i wasn't a huge fan of Twilight, but I'm glad my housmate had all the books so I persevered because I thought the series really hit a good rhythm in Eclipse.Knew ther was a reason I had to finish a series once i'd started it Congrataulations on the contribution though.
